Artist
Bio:
Angie Olami
Angie Atkins is the award winning jewelry designer and the founder of Angie Olami, Inc. Her designs use 2000 year old Roman glass shards from archaeological digs in Israel. She uses shards too small to be placed in museums. These shards were once goblets, vases, jugs, perfume bottles and other household items. The glass is found, caked in mud, rock and sediment and then painstakingly cleaned until completely revealed. Only then can the real design process begin. The shards are set in gold, silver or copper in settings to compliment the color, shape and patina of the glass. There are collection pieces, which use smaller shards and the basic design can be reordered numerous times. Each time, however the piece will be slightly different due to the difference in the patina of each piece of glass.
Larger shards are used in “one of a kind” pieces that showcase the unusual shape and color of this piece of ancient history. These pieces may be paired with precious stones, pearls, ancient glass, Murano glass beads and Czechoslovakian crystal.
